"Prophecy"

marble, jasper medallion, smalti, raku; 20" x 16"

Change, renewal, finding and following “the” path… these are concepts that occupy my thoughts.  There is a spiritual element in much of my work, and “Prophecy” is no exception.  I have combined two methods of mosaic application.  First, I’ve established the structure via the double indirect method, leaving voids, which are consequently filled via direct application.  This creates an unexpected tension in the piece, giving voice to the design itself.  There’s push and pull happening throughout the piece, adding “umph” to the energy of the linear elements as they slice through the waves radiating from the center.  The center is a medallion of jasper, a stone which is considered a Power and Protection stone, a stone of Truth.

Exhibited at Ciel Gallery, Charlottesville, N.C. in their 2009 Contemporary Mosaic Art juried exhibition, Sept. 4 - Oct. 23, 2009
