"Lost"

"Lost" is a multi-media piece which has been built on a thick piece of polystyrene.  It is 17" x 17" x 2"; materials include murano smalti and millefiori (including 14K gold smalti), bits of red coral, plate glass applied over paper collage.

"Lost" represents our unresolved past, our life-changing events that cannot be forgotten.  We are trapped, lost within the memories.

"Lost" is a sort of performance piece.  I began by creating "Never Enough Payback", which is a mixed media collage.  The images represent a very dark time in my life which I endeavored to bury for years and eventually realized that it was seeping to the surface and causing all sorts of problems for me.  I faced it, I re-lived it, I visually described it, and then I documented the destruction of it.  Once it was in pieces, it's power was, not completely, but substantially diminished.  I incorporated the majority of the pieces into "Lost", and "it" took on a new and positive life.  The remaining pieces I placed in a sack and shipped them off to a show in Atlanta at the
Art House Co-op called Stick Your Sorries in a Sack.  The sack and its contents were then taken to the landfill.

The deconstruction process....

The pieces of the collage which were not incorporated into "Lost" were then stuffed into a sack and sent off to the
Art House Co-op.
